POSITION: Physician Assistant (Exempt)
REPORTS TO: MD
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Under the direct or indirect supervision of the preceptor physician and under the medical protocols and standardized procedures on file at the facility where working, see clients presenting at the facility seeking medical services.
Diagnosis and treatment of clients presenting will be within the framework of the Physician Assistant’s skill and knowledge base and within the standardized procedures and protocols developed for the facility.
Diagnosis and treatment that falls outside of skill level and or protocols shall be handled in the following manner:
In addition, the PA is responsible for the supervision of medical staff and auxiliaries staff under them at the facility where they are on duty.
QUALIFICATIONS: License as a PA in California. Certification as a PA is desired. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, be flexible to meet the needs of patients and co-workers, and use discretion/good judgment. Must maintain confidentiality relating to MVHC personnel, patients, and information, which could result in proprietary damage to MVHC. Must possess current valid California or Oregon driver license and auto liability insurance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions covered under the standardized procedures and protocols of the clinic. Follow and treat stabilized chronic medical conditions covered under protocols. Provide emergency medical care. Some of the treatable conditions shall include but not be limited to suturing of simple lacerations, I & D of abscesses, casting simple, not displaced fractures, providing life support until transportation to a medical facility is available, removal of foreign bodies from soft tissues, etc. See that self and staff under their supervision maintain medical standards and ethics. Secure continuing education in the amount necessary to maintain licensure and competency. Supervise and evaluate all medical staff working under them in the facility.

JOB SUMMARY: The physician at each clinic site provides direct patient care by performing the appropriate physical exam, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, and implementing therapeutic treatment measures. Provides medical coverage to support dental services (if offered at site). Provides inpatient and outpatient care for Mountain Valleys Health Centers’ patients including obstetrics when applicable. Provides direction and support to all clinical staff at site location. Works as an integral part of the Provider staff by participating in medical, quality assurance and other staff meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited medical college with a current license to practice medicine in the State of California. Current CPR, ACLS and DEA certification. Certification by an American Specialty Board preferably in family practice. Ability to work well with others in a professional manner in a team-oriented environment with leadership qualities and supporting attitude toward organization. Must maintain confidentiality relating to MVHC personnel, patients, and information that could result in proprietary damage to MVHC. REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE: Clean and appropriate business attire. Maintain licenses DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Take appropriate history, physical examination of patients by ordering pertinent diagnostics and implement appropriate therapy according to standard medical practice. Obtain appropriate consults when problems presented are outside scope of practice or when unfamiliar with a particular aspect of the patient’s care. Communicate effectively with the patient while involved with their health care, including appropriate patient education while answering questions and in history taking. Demonstrate competent knowledge in delivering health care to patients through peer review and clinic quality assurance program. Cooperate with the rest of the medical staff in assuring after hours coverage for clinic patients. Comply with other facility regulations if providing inpatient or maternity care and represents MVHC in other facilities in a professional manner at all times. Supervise PAs and FNPs according to the standardized procedures agreed upon which defines their scope of practice while complying with all federal and state regulations and codes. Support and contribute in a positive manner in clinic efforts to maintain and improve patient satisfaction in all aspects of health delivery. Work at maximum potential to meet productivity requirements in order to improve fiscal viability while maintaining quality medical care.

Federally Qualified Health Centers participate in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program.
