JOB SUMMARY: The Dentist examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums. May treat diseases of nerve, pulp, and other dental tissues affecting oral hygiene and retention of teeth. May fit dental appliances or provide preventive care.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• To relieve dental pain and infection.
• To provide basic dental services.
• To maintain quality dental care equal to or greater than the private sector.
• Motivate the employees of the dental clinic, especially those involved in direct dental service delivery.
• To provide the dental procedures of prevention and restorative to include:
o Exam & x-rays
o Prophylaxis
o Sealants
o Scale and rootplane
o Extractions
o Alveoloplasty
o Minor surgery
o Biopsies
o Dentures
o Denture repairs and relines
o Fillings (composite and amalgam)
o Stayplates
o Stayplate and partial denture repairs and relines
o Cast crowns
o Stainless crowns
o Fixed bridges (as center allows)
o Partial dentures (as center allows)
o Root canal therapy (as center allows)
• Provide direct oversight to the Dental School Externs in the clinic and complete assessments as required.
• Provide direct oversight to the AEGD residents in the clinic and complete evaluations as required.
• Provide patient care on the HOPE van as requested.
• Provide direct oversight to the Shasta College Dental Hygiene program clinic as requested.
• Other duties or projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of current dental principles.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Graduate from an accredited American Dental School.
· DDS or DMD degree.
PREFERRED Qualifications
· Two years’ experience as a dentist
· Dental community clinic setting experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· STANDING/WALKING: Up to 90% of the workday consists of stand/walking on tile and cement floors while performing Dentist duties.
· SITTING: Up to 90% of the workday may be spent sitting.
· LIFTING: Lifting may include up to 25 lbs. in moving equipment and push up to 100 pounds (on wheels).
· CARRYING: May include carrying objects weighing up to 10 lbs., this may include carrying charts and equipment.
· PUSHING/PULLING: Up to 5% of the day may require pushing or pulling equipment, drawers and carts.
· CLIMBING: No more than 1% of the time may include climbing one flight of stairs.
· STOOPING/KNEELING: Up to 5% of the work day is spent stooping or kneeling to open drawers and gathering equipment.
· BENDING/CROUCHING: Up to 25% of the work day may be spent in bending at the waist.
· REACHING/STRETCHING: Up to 3% of the time may require reaching or stretching.
· HAND/WRIST: Hand and wrist movement is required up to 90% of the workday; this may include moderate to intense strength.
· FINGERING: Up to 80% of the work day may involve fingering, this may include instrumenting with moderate to intense strength or typing in patient’s records and other documents.
· FEELING: Normal tactile feeling is required to perform all job duties, including taking pulses.
· TWISTING: Up to 50% of the day may be required in retrieving supplies, instruments, or equipment.
· RESPIRATORY: Ability to wear a respirator such as an N95 mask or higher protection such as a partial face or full face P95 when mandated.
· TALKING: Above average ability is required in communicating with patients, staff, and outside agencies.
· HEARING: Above average ability is required for the ability to clearly hear staff, student and patient comments.
· SEEING: Average ability is required to perform direct patient care. Above average ability is required to read and follow instructions and assisting clinical team.
Provides health care services by performing the appropriate assessment including the history and physical exam, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, and implementing therapeutic treatment measures under the supervision of the assigned physician supervisor. Works as an integral part of the clinician staff by participating in Medical Staff and PA/NP meetings as well as other projects and committees of Shasta Community Health Center.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a part of an interdisciplinary team, the Dental Hygienist will provide hygiene services to patients and promote overall patient wellbeing. Responsible for prevention and control of periodontal disease; assess signs of disease and health in the oral cavity; identify the dental hygiene problem; and plan, implement, and evaluate dental hygiene care. Perform dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease. Provide necessary care while protecting and respecting patient rights. All of the Duties and Procedures as outlined by the Dental Board of California that are allowable as well as all chairside clinic support requested.
