The Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry (NPP) is a member of the clinical team and provides general medical care and treatment to patients in the clinics at the agency, under direction of a physician.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Identifies, evaluates, and addresses mental health and general health issues of the population in the behavioral healthcare clinic while administering quality patient care.
· Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the clinic staff which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.
· Assists in for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral healthcare issues.
· Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed treatments and/or medications.
· Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of physician.
· Records physical findings and formulates plan and diagnosis based on patient’s condition as per regulatory bodies.
· Discusses cases with physician and other clinical professionals to prepare comprehensive patient behavioral healthcare plan.
· Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by physician and agency/regulatory guidelines
· Prescribes or recommends drugs in the treatment of behavioral healthcare issues
· Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and quality and standards according to protocols, and receives and implements constructive directives.
· Maintains self in a professional manner at all times and adheres to the policies and procedures of the agency.
· Performs additional tasks as assigned.
· Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Knowledge and experience in behavioral healthcare procedures
· Experience in medical counseling/advising
· Experience and proven skill in positive interpersonal and human relations
· Experience in decision-making and problem solving skills
· New York State Licensed Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry (NPP) with prescriptive privileges and at least one (1) year of experience in nursing with the NPP credential.
New York requires a physician relationship for at least one part of nurse practitioner practice.
