Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Join UT Southwestern's Office of Advanced Practice Providers (OAPP) as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant III in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team at Children's Health in Dallas, providing comprehensive inpatient care to pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. The position demands a high degree of critical thinking and clinical expertise to diagnose, treat, and manage critically ill patients within the cardiac intensive care unit.

• Working with a multidisciplinary team within the UT Southwestern Pediatric Critical Care/Cardiology division.
• Located at Children's Hospital in Dallas.
• Provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients on our inpatient pediatric cardiac intensive care unit.
• Patients present with a wide variety of congenital and acquired heart disease.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and treats critically ill patients, develops and manages treatment plans, and performs advanced procedures.
• Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
• Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
• Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
• Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
• Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
• Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.

Compensation

• New Grad Rate $143,325

Shift & Schedule

• Variable 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends.
• 24/7 coverage.

Requirements

• Master's degree in nursing or Higher degree and Documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
• OR Master's degree graduate of a Master's or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Advanced Practice RN (CPNP-AC) by Texas State Board of Nursing upon hire and authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire.
• OR National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and certified licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C) upon hire.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers upon hire.
• Preferred: One year of pediatric cardiology inpatient experience with heart failure, pre and post heart transplant and with ventricular assisted devices.
• Preferred: Experience with peripheral intravenous lines (PIV), removal of chest tubes, pacing wires, sutures, and with arterial blood gas draws.
• New grads with previous pediatric cardiac or ICU experience may be considered.
