Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant III, Pediatric Cardiac ICU

UT Southwestern is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant III for their Pediatric Cardiac ICU team. This role involves providing comprehensive care to pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart disease within a multidisciplinary setting at Children's Hospital in Dallas. • Working with a multidisciplinary team within the UT Southwestern Pediatric Critical Care/Cardiology division.
• Located at Children's Hospital in Dallas.
• Focus on inpatient pediatric cardiac intensive care unit.
• Patient population includes pediatric patients with a wide variety of congenital and acquired heart disease.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, treat, manage, educate, consult, and coordinate care for patients and their families.
• Diagnose and treat critically ill patients, develop and manage treatment plans, and perform advanced procedures.
• Conduct and document comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
• Synthesize data and utilize evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
• Demonstrate proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
• Provide relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
• Facilitate/participate in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
• Collaborate in research projects and protocols; and routinely apply evidence based best practices to patient care.

Compensation

• New Grad Rate $143,325

Shift & Schedule

• Variable 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends.

Requirements

• Required Education: Master's degree in nursing or Higher degree and Documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population OR Master's degree graduate of a Master's or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Required Licenses/Certifications: Advanced Practice RN (CPNP-AC) by Texas State Board of Nursing upon hire and authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire OR National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and certified licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C) upon hire.
• Required Licenses/Certifications: Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers upon hire.
• Preferred Experience: One year of pediatric cardiology inpatient experience with heart failure, pre and post heart transplant and with ventricular assisted devices.
• Preferred Experience: Experience with peripheral intravenous lines (PIV), removal of chest tubes, pacing wires, sutures, and with arterial blood gas draws.
• New grads with previous pediatric cardiac or ICU experience may be considered.
