Family Medicine Physician Assistant

General Position Summary:The Family Nurse Practitioner works as part of the clinic provider team performing a varietyof direct patient services including assessment, diagnosis, implementation of treatment,evaluation, and monitoring the general patient management plan for clinic patients. TheFamily Nurse Practitioner performs these functions under the general supervision of alicensed physician in a primary health care setting.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Patient Relations:1. Obtains complete medical history from patient, and/or family, and/or previous medicalrecord, etc.2. Explains treatment options to patients and families.3. Teaches and counsels patients and families in a culturally sensitive manner.Staff Relations/Team Building:1. Consults with physicians and other members of the health care team as necessary.Acts to facilitate communication between the members of the health care team,including clinical and non-clinical staff.2. Performs other necessary duties as required by the Johnson Health Center to meet thegoal of providing primary health care services.Clinical Duties:1. Assesses, diagnoses, implements treatment, evaluates, and monitors patients' healthstatus.2. Performs complete physical examinations on patients.3. Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies based on clinical guidelines andmedical judgment.4. Diagnoses acute and chronic illness on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports, and/or the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approvedprotocols.5. Formulates, initiates, and monitors patient management plans for patients assignedto the Family Nurse Practitioner, using protocols and/or consultation with asupervising physician.6. Refers patients requiring hospitalization or assessment and management ofconditions to supervising physicians, emergency department physicians, orappropriate specialists.7. Renders emergency care and treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation,starting IV fluids, and ordering appropriate emergency medications. Sutures thelacerations and addresses acute orthopedic injury with splinting if within theprovider's scope of care.8. Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and is necessary to perform theessential functions of the Family Nurse Practitioner position.Administrative Duties:1. Reviews other providers' notes as per the Chart Review Policy of the Johnson HealthCenter.2. Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards, reviews recordsregularly, and obtains physician counter signatures where necessary.Performance Improvement Activities:1. Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the Johnson Health Center QIprogram.Safety/Infection Control Activities:1. Attends all mandatory OSHA infection control seminars and follows general OSHAguidelines for infection control, including "Universal Precautions."2. Abides by all Johnson Health Center infection control policies, including acute responsemeasures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.Competencies:1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, a Nurse Practitioner programrecognized by the Board of Nursing, or from a program otherwise designated for NursePractitioners that has been approved by the State Board of Nursing.2. The ability to relate effectively to patients and providers.3. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.4. Sufficient experience to carry out the duties of this position.Physical Demand and Working Environment:Fast-paced office setting with travel to other offices often. Lifting and/or exerting force upto 25 pounds occasionally, with frequently moving of objects. Work requires speaking,sitting, bending, walking, standing, hearing, and stooping, kneeling, and repetitive motionwith certain activities. OSHA high-risk position.
