Requirements: ● Requires a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program. ● Must hold current national certification (ANCC or AANP) and maintain an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license in New York State. ● In accordance with New York State Nurse Practitioner Practice Act requirements, the practitioner must have completed the minimum number of clinical practice hours required to practice without a written practice agreement with a collaborating physician (currently 3,600 hours) or approximately 2 years of full time experience. ● Prescriptive authority and DEA eligibility are required. ● Must be BLS certified
Position Description The Family Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive primary and urgent care services to students within a college health setting. This role involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based care for acute, episodic, and select chronic conditions, while promoting health, wellness, and disease prevention in a diverse student population.
The FNP practices with a high degree of clinical autonomy within established scope-of-practice guidelines and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team. The practitioner is responsible for conducting thorough health histories and physical examinations, diagnosing medical conditions, and developing and implementing appropriate treatment plans. This includes ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and therapies Provide routine gynecologic exams, Pap smears, STI evaluation ,evaluation of pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or vaginal symptoms. Contraceptive counseling and management. Emphasis is placed on patient-centered care, clinical safety, and timely access to services in a fast-paced urgent care environment. In addition to clinical management, the Family Nurse Practitioner plays a key role in patient education. This includes counseling students on their diagnoses, treatment options, medication use, preventive care, sexual and reproductive health, immunizations, and self-care strategies. Collaborates closely with physicians, nursing staff, mental health providers, and campus partners to ensure coordinated and integrated care. Appropriate referrals to specialists, counseling services, or community providers are made when needed, and follow-up care is managed to support continuity and positive health outcomes.
