Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) – Rural Health Clinic
A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in a rural health clinic provides comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages, including health assessments, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, preventive care, health education, and management of medications. The FNP works collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes, often serving as a primary healthcare provider in underserved communities. Responsibilities include performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, promoting wellness, and coordinating referrals to specialty care when needed.
Physician – Rural Health Clinic
A Physician in a rural health clinic delivers comprehensive medical care to patients across the lifespan, diagnosing and treating a wide range of health conditions while emphasizing preventive care and chronic disease management. The physician performs examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, develops treatment plans, prescribes medications, and coordinates patient care with other healthcare providers. In rural settings, physicians often manage diverse and complex medical needs, provide leadership to clinical staff, and work to improve healthcare access and outcomes for underserved populations.
Federally Qualified Health Centers participate in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program. Clinicians who serve at least two years full-time at an FQHC can receive up to $75,000 in tax-free loan repayment (or up to $100,000 in some Substance Use Disorder Workforce categories). Half-time service is also eligible at a reduced award. Eligibility extends to NPs, PAs, CNMs, CRNAs, and physicians with qualifying education debt.
