Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and in collaboration with Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), staff physicians, CNMs, and APNs, will provide women’s healthcare services to the patients of OHI that is consistent with established policies, procedures and protocols, OSHA standards, and other safety and health related codes and laws.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and manages individual women’s health patient care in collaboration with the chief medical officer, staff physicians, CNMs, and APNs.
- Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all physicians and other providers and staff to carry out the goals and objectives of OHI, according to established policies and procedures.
- Provides continuing care to assigned patients in the office setting, anticipating, and recognizing deviations from normal, initiating treatment, and consulting with a physician as appropriate.
- Orders diagnostic tests, medications and lab tests as indicated. Analyzes, interprets, and synthesizes data and applies information to patient management.
- Provides education and counseling for patients, families, and community groups on various health conditions.
- Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinic policies, procedures, and protocols, as needed to achieve OHI goals and objectives.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of OHI Performance Improvement program.
- Attends and actively participates in departmental and medical staff meetings as required.
- Supports health center colleagues with internal referrals when clinically appropriate.
- Collects patient information and records patient information, such as medical history and reports examination results.
- Ensures all patient charts justifies prescribed treatment and includes findings/progress, and plan of care, in accordance with OHI policy and procedures.
- Provides medical care for all individuals without regard to ability to pay, race, color, origin or creed, according to OHI policy.
- Provides consultation, guidance, and direction to medical support staff to ensure continuity and quality of care services.
- Effectively, efficiently, and timely completes all paperwork requirements for billing and medical records compliance.
- Advises patients on good health practices.
- Uses effective clinical judgment in referring patients and receiving referrals. Refers patients to specialists when required and in accordance with their insurance restrictions.
- Develops and implements goals and objectives to ensure high quality, cost effective clinical care.
- Ensures all patient charts are completed within 24 hours of the patient visit and the charting is accurate to support clinical and documentation requirements via Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Active participant in OHI's performance improvement process, departmental meetings, and other OHI meetings as scheduled.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends at all OHI sites as needed.
- Willingness to provide on call services as scheduled.
- Ability to work in a variety of settings such as the traditional office, mobile medical unit, etc.
- Ability to verbally communicate with diverse individuals and groups.

(OHI), staff physicians, will provide primary care services to the patients of OHI that is consistent with established policies, procedures and protocols, the Joint Commission policies and procedures, OSHA standards, and other safety and health related codes and laws.
Responsibilities:
- Performs complete health examination of perinatal, prenatal, and postpartum patients, including health history and physical examination, in accordance with protocols established by the Chief Medical Officer or designee.
- Provides direct care for women in labor, including management of normal delivery.
- Provides health instruction for women in all stages of life cycle.
- Provides health examinations of inter-partum patients, especially those seeking advice concerning family planning and gynecological issues.
- Provides patient/family education, health counseling, and health advocacy services to patients, their families and significant other.
- Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to establish patient care programs and policies.
- Participates in OB/GYN call schedule as directed.
- Orders appropriate laboratory studies and referrals, interprets the results of laboratory tests and follow-up of abnormal lab reports.
- Orders treatment in keeping with protocols established by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and OHI approved guidelines.
- Provides direction and supervision to the ancillary clinical OB/GYN staff.
- Carries out administrative activities in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department as directed by the CMO or designee.
- Prepares reports of activities of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section as directed by the CMO or designee.
- Carries out additional duties including research projects, and community health education, as assigned by the CMO or designee.
- Is responsible for the proper interpretation and execution of clinician orders.
- Prepare OB/GYN paperwork, having knowledge of all forms pertinent to the EMR System.
- Verify pregnancy tests and perform routine prenatal screenings.
- Responsible to supervise patients and staff during an emergent OB/GYN situation until appropriate emergency medical assistance arrives.
- Responsible to pursue necessary educational requirements to maintain license.
- Instruct patients on all aspects of inter-partum care including but not limited to medication, treatments, procedures, pre-term labor, etc.
- Provides leadership role in clinical collaboration committees as it relates to the day-to-day patient care model. Demonstrates professional and leadership qualities to facilitate a cohesive and productive team.
